First time at Heathcote Drags

Heard about Heathcote drags from one of the guy’s on the 300c forums so Pete and I decided to check it out last weekend. It’s a lovely drive of about an hour and a half north of Melbourne. Evidently it’s quite a popular raceway even though this was the first we’d heard of it. The facility’s nestled in the quite country side, some might say ‘hidden’, as we turned off the highway we almost missed the hole in the fence and dirt track to the raceway (no signs no nothing lol).

Anyways once we found it it was all good, friendly staff and everything was well layed out and easy to find. It was hotter then heck on the day, the temperature kept climbing all day till it reached 35+ and hotter still on the tarmac.

Got a lot of runs in on the day and some pretty good times … 13.4 sec 1/4 mile @ 171.94 km/h ! … their track was much stickier then Calder but i think the heat was holding us back.

Met a great bunch of guy’s over for the weekend from Adelaide … can you believe Heathcote is the closest track to those poor guys, a 12 hour drive!!! :(

I’ve put HABANA into Dynomotive’s more then capable hands to have them install the RDP NOS kit. Now as soon as I solve the traction problem I’m looking forward to a 100+ HP boost on the track WooHoo :)

Friday Night Drags 1st Feb ‘08

Had another fun night at Calder Park on friday night. Definetly improved our times over two weeks ago. Got to meet MoparMal as well in his awesome Charger (see pics).

This was our first run after Steve at RDP waved his magic wand over my car with a CAI, exhaust and new tune. Steve warned me that with these mods the biggest problem we’d have was traction, and boy’o was he right. We spent the first 25+ meters of the runs just spinning the rear tires!!

As the night got cooler I finally hit 170+ km/H and generally improved all our times including getting a 13.3 run. I’ve attached some pics of the night.

So the big question we were left with from the night was ‘how do we get some more traction?’ … had a few chat’s with a few folks and it seems at first glance because of the SRT’s huge rotor and brembo breaks we’re SOL in finding standard drag slicks and will probably have to look into importing some tires / rims from the states :(

Here’s some more random pics from the night;

First mods to my 300c

Well got my SRT8 back from Mark at Dynomotive today after having them install a preformance pack from Steve at Redcliffe Dyno (DynoSteve). I’ve had a new exhaust, thermostat, cold air intake and ECU tune. The gross result is in the graph;

The car still drives very well in normal traffic and the new acceleration is definitely noticeable but I’ll give you a report on how she preforms at the drags after Friday. One pleasant result of the tune is the reduced fuel consumption, previously I was averaging 17 - 17.5 l/100km after the tune I’m now running approx. 15 l/100km!! The only down side so far is a very noticeable very loud and very invasive base drone in the cabin at approx. 1700 RPM :(

Now I just need to work out whats the next step (as the twin turbo solution’s sounding very expensive!).
